This is the 9th residential TSM Workshop, allowing much more time to practise and reflect.
Once again there are opportunities to qualify as a Certified Autograph Trainer.

STRAND A
Office tools for Maths (6 hrs)

A1 - Word 2007 and Tools for the Busy Teacher
Using the Office 2007 interface: symbols, equations, diagrams; hyperlinks; embedding Autograph files.
Tools to make the life of the busy mathematics teacher more efficient and effective: Jing, FlashEarth, Java and Flash applets, YouTube videos, etc!

A2 - Putting Excel to work (beginners/intermediate)
How to get more from Excel, creating sequences, graphs and charts, filling down, formulae and text. Simple simulations. Excel for basic Statistics. Data in and out of Autograph.

A3 - Excel for Statistics and Data Handling
Excel is a powerful and dynamic tool for investigating and demonstrating mathematics and basic statistics.
Led by Sidney Tyrrell (and Christine Dickinson)

A4 - Excel for advanced users
This workshop will look at some of the advanced features of Excel and how they can be used to create interactive and dynamic resources for use in the classroom or for independent learning.
We will look at features such as conditional formatting, slider bars, buttons and option boxes, named and dynamic ranges and data validation as well as including an introduction to the Macro recorder and Visual Basic for Applications.
You can explore recording and using simple Macros or delve into more advanced examples. There will be plentiful examples and a chance to work on an idea of your own.

A5 - Teaching with CAS (Computer Algebra)
Exploring TI Nspire - in software form for the PC and also in the handheld calculator form, to cover a wide range of secondary topics, with an emphasis on developing an intutitive feel for difficult topics, problem solving and investigative work to challenge gifted students.

A6 - Autograph 3.3 in the classroom
Trying out lesson plans using Autograph when working in a classroom environment. Different technologies will be discussed (Interactive Whiteboard, Tablet PC, graphics tablet). Material for ages 11-18 will be introduced.

A7 - Autograph 3.3 for Arabic Teachers
A special workshop using the full Arabic localisation of Autograph, incorporating the World's first right-to-left Arabic mathematics input notation. We welcome the delegation teacher trainers from the Ministry of Education in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Dynamic Classroom (6 hrs)

B1 - Autograph 3.3: beginners/intermediate
Getting used to dynamic object selection, and Autograph's tools that are designed for effective teaching and learning: slow plot, dynamic constant controller, scribble tool. Data handling, 2D and 3D. topics will be covered.

B2 - Autograph 3.3: for 11-16 teaching
Object selection and the right-click menu; ideas for dynamic lessons on straight lines, coordinate geometry, vectors, transformations, graphs; data handling: scatter diagrams and histograms.

B3 - Autograph 3.3: for AS / IB
1D: Prob.distr., hypothesis tests, histograms, central limit theorem.
2D: Graphs, functions, numerical methods, trigonometry; calculus, coordinate geometry; bivariate data; residuals.
3D: lines, planes, vectors; surfaces; volumes of revolution.

B4 - Autograph-based Investigation and Modelling Activities for A2/IB students
Various ideas for developing tasks to explore mathematical ideas and concepts essential for success at A2/IB Mathematics HL. The more advanced features of Autograph will be used.

B5 - Geometry
[Cabri 2, Cabri 3D and Autograph 3D]

1. 3D objects in Cabri, in parallel perspective, such as cubes, cones, cylinders, prisms; surfaces given by their equation z = f(x;y): the tools "locus" and locus of loci" will allow us to do it.

2. Nets of polyhedra; problems impossible to explore in paper and pencil environment (such as problems of maximisation of volumes); modelling motion, eg rotating caroussel, a swinging character…

3. 3D geometry using Autograph: shapes given by their equations and the "Constant Controller"; We will construct any surface that can be transformed continuously onto another one. We also present some examples of 2D problems where the 3D version of Autograph allows us to investigate in a completely new way.

No knowledge of Cabri or Autograph required. It is easy! It is motivating!! It can be gorgeous!!!
GSP-5 will also be available on the computers.

B6 - Autograph 3.3 in the classroom

This workshop will focus on hands-on innovative lesson resources for 11 to 16, with a special emphasis on functional skills and investigational style topics. Post-16 topics will be covered as well on the third session.
